A leaked document has indicated that former Workington MP Sue Hayman could be in line for a peerage.

Outgoing Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's selections for the forthcoming dissolution honours list were leaked to the Sunday Times.

Mr Corbyn's eight-person list features Mrs Hayman, who was Shadow Environment Secretary until she lost her seat after four-and-a-half years in December's General Election.

She lost the traditionally red constituency to Conservative MP Mark Jenkinson, ending Labour's 40-year grip.

While YouGov had tipped Workington could turn blue, the significant majority of over 4,000 raised eyebrows in an election which saw scores of long-held Labour seats in the North and Midlands turn blue, many for the first time.

The constituency elected Tory Richard Page at a by-election in 1976, but he was replaced by Labour’s Dale Campbell-Savours at the 1979 general election - the only spell the constituncy has not been in Labour hands.

No-one is able to comment until the nominations committee meets and the list becomes official.
