A Lake District hotel has won a national award for its health club and spa.

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, near Windermere, topped the bill in the Best Hotel and Spa category at the National Fitness Awards ceremony held at Athena in Leicester.

Michael Kay, group leisure manager from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, which manages the health club at Low Wood Bay, said: “We're thrilled to have been placed top of the class in this category and to get such a ringing endorsement from the judges.

"It's a reflection on how good Low Wood Bay and its health club has become with the addition of the spa facilities, but also great recognition of the hard work and great service offered from the health club and spa team.

"The award win is an early Christmas present for the team, some of whom were able to enjoy a night off to attend the awards and celebrate their success."

Up to seven finalists were selected in each award category, with the judging process including a site visit by a member of the awards team who inspected the facilities and interviewed members and staff before compiling a comprehensive report for the judging panel.

The refurbished health club is part of a multi-million redevelopment of the hotel.

The health club now offers over 40 indoor and outdoor classes for members as well as extensive facilities including a spacious fitness studio with 40 cardio and resistance stations.

There is also a swimming pool, large steam room, express beauty treatment rooms, infra-red sauna and modern spa facilities including outdoor hot tub, sauna and infinity pool.
