Jewellers Banks Lyon, of Kendal and Lancaster, hosted a sparkling winter ball at celebrate their 35th year in business.

"We wanted to mark this special anniversary," said founder Rodney Banks Lyon, "spending time with the many friends from our local business community who have kindly supported our journey over the years.”

The event at Kendal's Castle Green Hotel featured a backdrop of sparkling lights and frosted decor, and guests had the chance to win a diamond necklace.

The Banks Lyon story began with a shoe shop at Church Street, Lancaster, dating back to 1885. However, the footwear business held little appeal for Rodney Banks Lyon, and in his early 20s he began working towards opening a jewellery shop in the town.

He set about gaining first-hand knowledge and management experience in the watch and jewellery industry, and in 1985 he and his wife Jasmin realised their dream by opening Banks Lyon in Lancaster.

In 2017 their daughter Maxine and her husband Alexander opened a second jewellery shop, in Kendal.
