The University of Cumbria hopes to tackle the staffing crisis in the NHS.
A new institute of health has been set up with a dual purpose of recruiting more staff in Cumbria and upskilling the current workforce.
At the moment it is estimated there are about 40,000 registered nurse vacancies in a variety of specialisms.
Professor Brian Webster-Henderson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Health at the university strategically leads the new institute, he said: “The institute represents the growth of the university’s education, research, entrepreneurship and its major contribution to the health and social care workforce."
