THROUGH its Dalton Nuclear Institute, The University of Manchester maintains the largest nuclear research and higher-learning capability across UK academia. In West Cumbria - the heart of the UK nuclear industry - we operate the Dalton Cumbrian Facility (DCF) at Westlakes Science Park, a state-of-the-art research base for radiation science, and the Robotics for Extreme Environments Laboratory (REEL) at Cleator Moor, which applies bespoke engineering solutions to the application of robotic systems in challenging settings.

In Cumbria:

Innovation Project Manager

The Innovation Project Manager will drive the continued development of the Cumbria Innovation Partnership and, working with colleagues in North Wales, will support the evolution of the North West Nuclear Arc concept. This will be a varied and interesting full-time role that will involve working collaboratively with a range of private and public sector stakeholders that are active in innovation, to help make nuclear energy programmes more efficient and sustainable through the development of a strong, vibrant and diverse marketplace for innovation.

The successful candidate will be passionate about making a difference to our communities and will be dedicated and proactive in achieving results. Initially for 12 months from the date of appointment, there is potential for the role to be extended, depending on the success of the partnership.

Executive Assistant

The full-time role of Executive Assistant will be to provide effective day-to-day administrative management support to the Dalton Nuclear Institute’s Cumbrian-based Directors. The post-holder will support the management of administrative projects, procedures and systems at both the DCF and REEL, whilst coordinating multiple calendars, work tasks, agendas and meetings.  Acting as a central point of contact for enquiries from academic and experimental staff, the Executive Assistant will play an important role in liaising with Faculty and University colleagues, as well as students, visitors, and external users.

The successful candidate will show flexibility and adaptability in meeting the developing needs of the Dalton Nuclear Institute and The University of Manchester. Also, a proactive and energetic approach is important, as is an ability to establish a good rapport with students, academics, staff and visitors.

Health, Safety and Compliance Advisor

The Health, Safety & Compliance Advisor will provide operational support, information, guidance and advice relating to health, safety and compliance of The University’s activities in West Cumbria, and will support the Faculty’s Safety, Compliance & Risk Manager by proactively engaging with the health & safety community across the University to maintain the highest possible standards.

This is a full-time position and the successful candidate will have experience of working in a health and safety role in a similar environment, and will hold a relevant health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH General Certificate. You should also be able to demonstrate a proactive and energetic approach, and an ability to establish a good rapport with the University’s internal and external stakeholders.
