BARGAIN hunters will soon be able to set their sights on a new pair of shoes in Carlisle.

Following the opening of the new River Island store in The Lanes Shopping Centre last month, Deichmann is the next retailer to throw open its doors to shoppers in the former New Look store, which was split into three separate units earlier this year.

The third unit, which Lanes bosses hope to be taken on by a food outlet, is yet to be filled.

The German footwear chain - claimed to be Europe’s biggest shoe retailer - currently has a store in Workington, and sells a variety of styles of men, women and children.

Luckily for eager shoppers, a spokeswoman from Deichmann confirmed the wait is nearly over for its arrival in Carlisle.

The spokeswoman told the News & Star: “The store opening has created 12 permanent jobs in the local area, including supervisor positions, shop floor and cashier roles.

“Like its counterparts, the Carlisle store will benefit from a simple, customer friendly layout, with all the stock available on the shop floor so that customers can easily locate and try on the style and size of their choice without having to wait for assistance.”

The store will open at 9am on Saturday, October 19, with free shoes up to the value of £25 for the first 25 customers.

To celebrate the opening, staff will also hold a spin the wheel game, giving shoppers the chance to win free shoes, plus the first 500 customers will be handed limited edition bags featuring an image chosen by Carlisle residents on social media.

John Rutter, store manager of Deichmann Carlisle, added: “We’re really excited to be opening our doors in Carlisle and are thrilled to have been able to help create new local jobs.

“We’re looking forward to getting to know all the local shoppers and becoming a well-loved fixture in The Lanes Shopping Centre.”
