Penrith and the Border MP Rory Stewart has claimed that he thinks he has a good chance of being elected the Mayor of London.

Speaking to ITV's Good Morning Britain programme this morning, Mr Stewart said: "I think I have a good chance, yes."

Asked about why he wanted to be the Mayor of London, he replied: "I love running things, I love operational work.

"The most satisfying thing in politics is doing things locally."

The MP said his three priorities as mayor would be tackling violent crime, air pollution and housing.

"I think I can get things done," he told the programme.

Mr Stewart added that being elected would be challenging, acknowledging that he has "no party machine" behind him.
