Carlisle United fans can raise a glass to Jimmy Glass and Tony Hopper at Brunton Park this weekend.

A limited edition beer, commemorating the 20th anniversary of goalkeeper Glass’s famous goal, will be on sale at the ground on Saturday.

Ten per cent of each sale will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of Blues legend Tony, who bravely fought the disease before his death last October.

The special brew follows an initiative led by Carlisle United’s London Branch supporters club, who previously produced a Jimmy Glass t-shirt to mark the anniversary.

The beer is called ‘90+5’, a reference to the minute of Glass’s goal against Plymouth on May 8, 1999, and has been created with Bar 301 at Carlisle station and Brampton-based brewer Oliver Chester.

London Branch chairman Ian Jardine said: “During the 2018/19 season the London Branch took a lead in celebrating the 20th anniversary of that famous Jimmy Glass goal.

“They firstly produced a t-shirt, closely followed by a very popular pin badge, and we now have this celebration beer.”

The 500ml bottles will be available for £4 in the Main Stand bar, Sunset Suite, Foxy’s Restaurant and Sporting Inn at the game against Oldham. It is also on sale at Bar 301 and The Local on English Street.

Other than the MND Association donation, profits will go back to the London Branch which has supported the club with initiatives and projects for decades.

“The club would like to thank the London Branch for their work on this project, and for the assistance of abm Catering and Heineken for their help and support in selling the brew from Brunton Park,” United said.

“Please raise a glass to Jimmy and Tony this weekend!”
