An award-winning bakery has been recognised for its food safety standards for the fifth year in a row.

Lisa Smith, owner of Ginger Bakers, based at Plumgarths, near Kendal, has been accredited by SALSA for the fifth year in a row.

SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval) is recognised as the leading food safety certification scheme for the UK’s small food and drink producers.

Lisa said: "We are delighted to have achieved this certification as it underlines our commitment to high standards.

"We made the decision to apply for SALSA in 2014 and since then we have come a long way – not really in terms of standards of production – but more in how we record what we are doing and the policies we put in place to prove how we are doing it.

"Within the food and drink industry there is a need to ensure that our supply chain is safe, traceable and auditable and the SALSA scheme exists to ensure food from small and micro businesses is consistently safe. Signing up for SALSA is definitely one of the best things we as a company could have done. The quality assurance it provides demonstrates to food buyers and the public alike that our products remains at the highest standard, and that care and attention is taken throughout our manufacturing process.’’
