The North of England’s gas distributor has been awarded a gold award by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

Northern Gas Networks was recognised for its "excellent" health and safety practices during 2019.

It is the third consecutive year that NGN has achieved a Gold award.

The international RoSPA Health and Safety Awards recognise achievements in health and safety management systems, including good practice in the areas of leadership and workforce involvement.

Each year, businesses submit a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their commitment to health and safety, which are independently assessed by a RoSPA panel.

Mark Simpson, EHS manager for regulation at Northern Gas Networks, said: “As the North of England’s gas distributor, operating a safe and reliable gas network is our number one priority.

"I am delighted with the gold RoSPA achievement.

"It recognises the hard work and commitment of all our employees to ensuring the health and safety of our customers and our colleagues.

"And to have been recognised with a gold award for the third consecutive year demonstrates how excellent health and safety management is core to what we do as an organisation.”

Northern Gas Networks will be presented with the award at a ceremony in Glasgow on September 12.
