A specialist has joined a Cumbria law firm as it anticipates dealing with more immigration issues related to Brexit.

Specialist in immigration law, Angela Barnes, has joined the Employment and HR team at Napthens, in Kendal.

Angela joins Napthens from a role as employment solicitor at Cumbria County Council, where she held responsibilities including managing the authority’s employment tribunal claims, working with trade union representatives, and providing training and advice to the council, fire service and more than 250 schools.

She also spent time advising the Royal Mail on trade union issues arising from its privatisation, and in 2012 worked as part of the team advising several London bus companies on the Olympic Bonus Strikes.

As a business immigration specialist, Angela advises on issues including the prevention of illegal working, carrying out right to work checks and obtaining permission for applicants to live and work in the UK.

Angela is joined in the Kendal office by new starter Jamie Humpage, who has joined as a conveyancing executive in the residential property team.

Jamie Allison, head of Napthens’ office in Kendal, said: “The Cumbrian team here at Napthens continues to go from strength to strength.

"Angela’s appointment brings specialist expertise in immigration law which will only become more relevant in coming months and years.

"With Brexit on the horizon immigration law could become a major issue for many employers.”
