The Institute of Directors’ Cumbrian branch is to stage its annual cruise on Windermere later this month, with guest speaker Barry Leahey MBE, managing director of Playdale Playgrounds and in-Cumbria’s reigning Businessperson of the Year.

The cruise aims to give IoD members and non-members, their friends, families, colleagues and clients, the chance to network against the backdrop of the iconic lake.

The annual event aims to strengthen ties between local businesses and provide a forum to celebrate success while fostering collaboration and innovation.

Mr Leahey, who is also chair of the branch, said: “'I'm really looking forward to networking with so many like-minded people, showcasing the best that Cumbria has to offer and demonstrating what a great place it is to live and work; and what better place to do this than on Cumbria's most iconic landmark.”

The cruise is sponsoredby Rathbones Kendal, as part of its wider backing of the IoD’s calendar of learning and networking events in the county.

Its managing director, Richard Dawson, said: “IoD’s learning and networking events are a key part of our sponsorship programme aimed at supporting and nurturing our local business community.

“The Windermere Cruise is definitely one of the biggest highlights of our year and we’re very much looking forward to hearing Barry speak.”

Barclays is also sponsoring the cruise.

The Institute of Directors North West has close to 2,000 members – with just over 100 in Cumbria.

Mr Leahey is currently looking to bolster membership as part of his vision, having become chairman in April.
