A TEENAGER has admitted burgling a youth group’s Carlisle base.

Jamie Ramdin, 18, appeared at the city’s crown court yesterday.

Ramdin was due to stand trial having previously pleaded not guilty to the burglary of The Rock youth project on June 26 last year.

But during a short court hearing before Judge James Adkin, Ramdin changed his plea and admitted entering the group’s Currock building as a trespasser and stealing electrical goods, games, sweets and cash. These are said to have been valued at hundreds of pounds.

Judge Adkin adjourned the case for Ramdin, of Greystone Road, Carlisle, to speak with a probation officer.

The teenager was granted bail, and is due to be sentenced at the crown court on July 19 when a judge will consider background information, including a psychological report.

Judge Adkin told Ramdin: “You have now pleaded guilty, which is a sensible decision because I think a jury would have found you guilty in due course.

“That would have put you in a much worse position so you have done the right thing.

“The fact you have pleaded guilty means you get a lesser sentence.”

The judge added: “I can’t say precisely what the sentence will be. My inclination is to try and help you in the community to deal with your various problems, as well as imposing some small measure of punishment.”
