Cumbrian business owners are invited to an event to find out how to access millions of pounds-worth of investment funding and business support.

The Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, a £400m investment fund launched in 2017 by the British Business Bank, has already directly invested £100m into 385 Northern SMEs.

The funding has enabled local businesses to scale up through product launches, expansion into new markets and investment in staff and infrastructure.

The Northern PowerUP event, at the People First Conference Centre in Carlisle on Tuesday from 9.30am, will include speakers Joe Clease, of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Sue Barnard, of British Business Bank, Stuart MacLennan, of Cows & Co and Corinne Watson, of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership.

Jake Berry, Northern Powerhouse Minister, said: "A thriving northern economy is vital to the success of our modern Industrial Strategy, which is why we are backing SMEs in this area and around the region. Through initiatives like the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, and with the support of our local partners, we are helping to create new opportunities for businesses in Cumbria to innovate, enhance productivity and grow."

Investment from the fund is available for firms with 10 to 200 employees and a turnover of up to £25m.
