MARKET trading will be championed in Carlisle as stallholders take part in a national campaign to encourage people to support independent businesses.
Carlisle Market is holding its Market in Pink Day today.
It's part of the Love Your Local Market campaign, which is now in its eighth year and runs from May 17 - 31.
This year's them is Markets Close to Your Heart.
Helen Wylie, centre manager, said: "This is a very relevant theme for Carlisle’s covered market as it is located in the heart of Carlisle and its participation in this national event serves to remind customers, old and new, to keep this historic and irreplaceable market close to their hearts."
During the fortnight-long event the venue will be decked with bunting. Today there will be face painting from 11am-3pm and a raffle will be held in aid of Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice, which is the market's charity of the year.
