A well-known Kendal estate and lettings agency been snapped up by Humberts as the property company continues to expand its presence in the region.

The acquisition of independent agency Scott Bainbridge by Humberts is the first under the ownership of Matt Spence, who said it would help “cement the expansion of its Lake District property portfolio”.

Scott Bainbridge was set up in 2004 by Kendal-born Iain Bainbridge when he was facing redundancy as a property solicitor.

While the office in Market Place will close, Mr Bainbridge will join the Humberts team as a consultant to provide “longstanding specialist expertise”.

He will work alongside Lake District regional manager Gerry Mahoney, who was appointed in January, with business continuing from Humberts’ Windermere office at Low Cleabarrow Business Park.

Mr Bainbridge, who ran Scott Bainbridge with his wife Hannah, said he was excited to be joining Humberts.

“We have always sought to be pro-active, principled and professional,” he said.

“According to our independent Google customer reviews we have a solid track record of securing great results for our clients and customers alike. We are extremely grateful to all who have supported the business over the years and excited at the new opportunities that joining forces with Humberts will secure.

“In our dealings with Humberts we have always found them refreshing to deal with, embracing the future whilst retaining what is best of the past and Iain is excited at the prospect of becoming part of a larger, better resourced business”.

Humberts itself was acquired by upmarket UK holiday-home lettings and sales company Natural Retreats around 12 months ago.

Chief executive of Natural Retreats and owner of Humberts, Matt Spence said he was “delighted” to bring in Scott Bainbridge

“With our focus on expertise and service, it’s business as usual in the Lakes, and we are delighted to bring Scott Bainbridge into the fold, as one of the industry’s leading player in the North of England.

“We are particularly thrilled that this grows the lettings side of our business by 15 per cent.”
