A Lake District B&B has been named England’s Bed and Breakfast of the Year 2019 by an international industry awards body.

Ambleside’s Elder Grove, managed by Matthew and Lucy Redman took home the prize at the 2019 Travel & Hospitality Awards.

The Travel & Hospitality Awards aim to celebrate the best in hospitality and leisure across all six continents, and several industry experts are involved in judging the overall winners.

Recognising the accomplishments of establishments across the travel industry, winners of each category excel in criteria including local knowledge, customer feedback, location and facilities.

The couple took on the B&B last August after they left corporate jobs in Somerset to pursue their dream to run a bed and breakfast.

Matthew said: “We’re over the moon to have won this award.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response since we took over management of Elder Grove B&B, and to be recognised for our hard work after less than a year at the helm is incredible.

“We welcome a lot of repeat visitors and have aimed to create a home away from home for our guests. Their positive feedback is so important to us, and this award is just the cherry on top of the cake.”

Customer feedback is incredibly important to Matthew and Lucy, with Elder Grove ranked as exceptional on Booking.com, and excellent on TripAdvisor.
