Talented future sixthformers showed their flair when they created costumes fit for the catwalk at Barrow Sixth Form College.

Around 70 Year 11 students attended the Spring into Sixth Form event at Furness College’s Rating Lane campus.

The aim was to experience college life, ask any questions about studying at Rating Lane and meet other students starting in September.

Teams included students from St Bernard’s, Walney, Dowdales, Chetwynde, Furness Academy, Millom School, Cartmel Priory CofE School and John Ruskin School.

They were tasked with collecting items to design a fashion outfit, which was then showcased on the catwalk in the Students’ Union.

Helen Gibson, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, said it was a great event with a vibrant atmosphere.

“Each year we have held Spring into Sixth Form we have been even more impressed with how the students have entered into the spirit of it. The task means they need to work together and we see even those that are shy at first soon start speaking to others.

“We know joining a specialist sixth form can be daunting for some as it is a new environment and we have students from schools all around the area. However, after this they leave with more confidence and excitement about starting here at Rating Lane and it helps them to settle in when they join us in September.”
