HIGHWAYS bosses have apologised over a lack of signage for a road diversion.

Motorists complained to The Mail that the closure of the A5093 between The Hill and The Green was not adequately signposted.

Signs informing motorists of the road closure and diversion were only placed just before the closure.

This meant vehicles had travelled a considerable distance past the diversion before discovering the road was closed.

One motorist said: "If you're heading away from Millom, the only sign which says the road ahead is closed is on the A5093 as you pass through The Hill, 300 yards south of the roadworks."

A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said: "The council acknowledges that the signage to advise motorists of the improvement works on the A5093 was not adequate.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will ensure additional signage is placed on both of the approaches to the works for the remainder of the schedule.”
