Stobart Group has appointed David Blackwood as a non-executive director.

Mr Blackwood took up the role at the aviation, energy and civil engineering group on Friday, March 1.

Mr Blackwood is currently a non-executive director and chairman of the Audit Committee at funeral services company Dignity plc and Scapa Group plc, a global supplier of bonding solutions and manufacturer of adhesive-based products for the healthcare and industrial industries.

He has previously served as chief financial officer of aqueous polymers supplier, Synthomer plc from 2007 to 2015, and held a number of senior roles with chemical giant ICI plc.

Mr Blackwood also becomes a member of the Audit, Remuneration and Nomination Committees and will take over as chairman of the group’s Audit Committee in June, replacing Andrew Wood, who is standing down after six years on the Stobart Group board.

Iain Ferguson, non-executive chairman at Stobart Group said he was “delighted” with Mr Blackwood’s appointment.

“He will bring a wealth of experience which will stand the Board in good stead as we continue to implement our ambitious growth plans and provide the framework for delivery of the Company's strategy,” he said.

“I also want to thank Andrew Wood for his diligence and commitment to the Group over many years as a non-executive director, senior independent director and chairman of the Audit Committee.”
