Plans for GlaxoSmithKline’s Ulverston plant – and the future of its workforce – will be on the agenda when Furness MP John Woodcock chairs a meeting of the company taskforce on Friday.

In July 2017 the company announced it was not proceeding with a planned £350m biopharmaceutical expansion at its North Lonsdale Road factory – and last October GSK said 191 of its staff were at risk of redundancy.

The taskforce, which was established by Mr Woodcock, has since been exploring options for the workforce and the site.

Mr Woodcock said: “It is important that we continue to pull together all the work that has been going on behind the scenes.

“GSK is looking to donate land to the community with the purpose of attracting new businesses to the area and we will be discussing the best ways of supporting the workforce.

“The people of the town and local businesses will want to know about developments." The meetings starts at 2pm.
