Interested in a career with the police service, joining directly at superintendent or inspector rank?

Book yourself onto a Direct Entry Meet the Police regional event and find out if the programme is for you.

The service is looking to recruit proven leaders from across industry in 2019.

Applicants will be recruited for their management skills in areas such as budgets, teams, resources and cultural change, while they also need to demonstrate diversity of thought, life perspective and experience throughout the rigorous selection and assessment process.

Cumbria Constabulary, in partnership with the College of Policing, is delighted to announce that the application window for Direct Entry Inspector 2019 is now open, with the deadline for applications of February 18, 2019.

If you are an experienced middle manager, senior manager or director in any sector, looking for a more rewarding career where you can directly help people and make a personal difference to the lives of people in all our communities, you are being asked to consider a switch of management career into policing.

The college’s direct entry programme recruits people at the senior ranks of superintendent and inspector, in partnership with forces across England and Wales.

These specific DE roles require dedicated, talented, flexible and proven leaders from outside policing and do not require any previous policing experience.

In Cumbria:

Superintendent Sarah Jackson said: “Direct entry inspector is an exciting opportunity to bring exceptional leaders into the police service, who can offer a new perspective.

“It’s a chance for someone who has already proven themselves as a leader, to start a second career, and to join a service that really makes a difference to people’s lives across all communities.

“That’s not to say it will be an easy job - it’s one that brings new challenges every day, but working in the police is an extremely rewarding career.

“We are looking for a passionate, talented and dedicated individual who not only wants to become an inspector, but who has the motivation to further step-up through the ranks.”

The Direct Entry programme, which in other forces has also seen the recruitment of superintendents, is now moving into its sixth year.

Across the country it has seen people from a variety of industries, such as retail, banking, marketing, local government, and education, become high-ranking officers.

Peter McCall, Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “Policing is responding to the rapidly changing nature of crime and technology, and in this environment, there has been a recognition to have a flexible approach to recruiting and leadership to reflect our communities.

“An important element of this approach has been the development of the Direct Entry Scheme which offers a route to those with exceptional and proven leadership skills, who have previously taken a different career path.

“This new route of entry offers an opportunity for further diversity with our force; with successful applicant bring different skill sets and experiences to the position. Direct entry roles will not supersede traditional entry routes, but they do complement them.”
