POLICE used a Taser on a dog after it left a Barrow woman with serious injuries.
Police were called at 11.50pm on Wednesday to a dangerous dog in Romney Road in Barrow.
A 23-year-old Barrow woman was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
A 22-year-old Barrow man was arrested on suspicion of having a dangerous dog out of control and assault occasioning GBH with intent and released pending investigations.
A Taser was used on the dog and it was seized and taken to police kennels.
A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at approximately 11:50pm on 16th January to the report of a dangerous dog in the area of Romney Road, Barrow.
"A 23-year-old woman from Barrow suffered serious injuries and taken to Furness General Hospital before being transferred to Royal Preston Hospital.
"A 22-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of having a dangerous dog out of control and assault occasioning GBH with intent and released without bail pending further investigations.
"During the incident a Taser was deployed and discharged at the dog to protect the safety of those present.
"The dog was seized and taken to Barrow police station and then to Kennels in West Cumbria.
"Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact police quoting log 251 of 16th November 2019."
