SIXTH formers will raise money for a mental health support charity after a student was found dead two days after Christmas.

Jake Davies, who lived in Askam, was found dead near Ulpha on the morning of December 27.

Along with his friends, Noah Johnson and Dan Milmine, 18-year-old Jake was part of band The Liars Club.

The band are regulars at the Odd Frog in Barrow.

After his death Jake’s bandmates urged men to seek help with mental health issues.

They said: “On the 27th of December we lost our bass player, best friend and brother to suicide.

“If you are dealing with suicidal thoughts we urge you to speak to someone, anyone, because the people listening will be there to hear and help.

“Every minute that goes by has been spent wishing that Jake would have spoken to us about his inner feelings.”

Jake was studying towards a higher apprenticeship at Furness College having achieved three A Levels during his two years at Barrow Sixth Form.

His friends and students at the sixth form will host a Brew Monday fundraiser at the Rating Lane campus on Monday between 11am and 1.30pm.

The event will raise money for Mind in Furness and is one of many Brew Monday fundraisers taking place across the UK on Blue Monday, January 21, which is considered to be the one day in the year when people are most likely to feel depressed.

There will be brews and cakes and students can make a donation in Jake’s memory.

Andrew Wren, principal and chief executive of Furness College, has paid tribute to the teenager.

“Jake was a student at Barrow Sixth Form College where he achieved A Levels in maths, business and law,” he said.

“His tutors say he was bubbly and chatty, lively and bright and a good student who always made a contribution in class. He was popular with staff and students alike.

“After his A levels, he was delighted to secure a higher apprenticeship in project management and was studying at our Channelside campus.”
