An event aimed at highlighting the challenges and opportunities from £90 billion investment within the Nuclear Sector in Cumbria is taking place this week.

The Carlisle Skills and Economy Summit, held at Carlisle College on Thursday, will feature Government Minister of State for Skills, Nick Boles MP.

The event has been organised by the Carlisle Economic Partnership and is open to any businesses or organisations who would like to attend.

It will be held at the new Carlisle College of Art building on Strand Road, and runs from 08:45 to 13:30.

The key speakers will explain the potential impacts and opportunities of the investment for Carlisle and Cumbria.

It will also outline the future skills requirements to meet the projected demand. Presentations will be followed by a panel discussion to begin the debate on how Carlisle will respond.

Organised to coincide with the Carlisle Skills Fair, planned at The Sands Centre on the same day, the key speakers for the morning summit are: Leader of Carlisle City Council, Cllr Colin Glover; Moira Tattersall; Principal Carlisle College, Tim Allan; York Consulting; Ken McEwan; Centre of Nuclear Excellence; Sandra Booth; University of Cumbria; and Graham Haywood; Cumbria LEP.
