Story Contracting has made a series of senior level appointments as it continues its ambitious expansion plans.

The firm has announced ten new roles in various departments, including a new appointment to the board of directors, head of commercial and a project manager. 

Here’s a full breakdown of the firm’s new recruits. 

John MacArthur - board of directors

 John MacArthur has been appointed to the board of directors of Story Contracting as of 1st April 2016. 

John joined the business in February last year from Balfour Beatty to head up the Rail division’s operations in Scotland. 

With over 26 years’ experience in civil engineering John will become rail director – Scotland. 

John will set, lead and manage the strategic direction and delivery of a safe, profitable and sustainable Rail business in Scotland. 

John will also be accountable for creating and embedding a culture of high performance, client satisfaction and continual improvement. 

This is a great opportunity and well deserved recognition based on the performance and growth of the Scotland Rail business over the last 12 months.

Alan Huddart – head of commercial  

Story Contracting has appointed Alan Huddart as head of commercial for the plant division. 

He will manage the development and delivery of commercial processes to support the business growth and relationships with clients. 

With 30 years on equipment rental Alan joins Story Contracting from Ainscough Crane Hire. 

Predominantly based in the depot at Carlisle, Alan’s role will also cover Story Contracting’s depots in Edinburgh and Leeds. 

Gary Dalgliesh – project manager

Gary Dalgliesh recently joined Story Contracting as project manager with a remit to predominantly undertake flood remedial works in the Construction division. 

Gary will manage a portfolio or projects from design through to completion. Gary joins Story Contracting from Lambert Gill where he was Contracts Manager for 31 years. 

Claire Mills - HR & OD partner  

Claire Mills has been appointed as HR & OD partner for Story Contracting’s Rail division and central services department. 

Claire will work closely with Managers to ensure a pipeline of skills for the business developing high performing teams in line with HR policy and legislation. 

Claire joined the business from Mitie an integrated facilities management company working with Sellafield and the NDA where she was a people advisor.

Brian O’Hare – Scheme Project Manager (Rail Division)

Brian O’Hare has been appointed as scheme project manager for Story Contracting’s Rail division. Brian will working on Blair hill Station AFA & Aberdeen Station End Screen Refurbishment works were he will be responsible for ensuring each project is taken from the design phase through to construction on site in accordance with the contract programme and within the contract budget. 

Brian joined the business from Balfour Beatty starting as a Trainee Site Engineer working towards the position of Site Agent. 

Brian worked on a variety of different projects including the £445million M74 Motorway extension and the Gleneagles Station AFA which was constructed in advance of the 2014 Ryder Cup. 

Jack Wilkinson – engineer (Rail Division)  

Jack Wilkinson has been appointed as engineer for Story Contracting’s Rail division. 

Jack will be responsible for controlling all site setting out works, ensuring all as builds are taken and quality control documents completed.

Jack joined the business from Laing O’Rourke where he worked as a Site Engineer on a £250 million rail improvement project in Stafford.

Rebecca Bennett - marketing and comms executive 

Rebecca Bennett has been appointed as marketing & communications executive joining the marketing team for Story Contracting covering the three business divisions Rail, Construction and Plant. 

Rebecca will be responsible for looking after internal and external communications and marketing, staff newsletter, social media accounts, internal projects and supporting company events. 

Rebecca joined the business from Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust working in the public sector as a communications officer. 

Michaela Docherty – depot manager  

Michaela Docherty has been appointed as depot manager for Story Contracting’s Plant division managing operations of their Normanton depot near Leeds. 

Michaela will be responsible for managing the depot to maximise profitability and growth. 

Michaela has held various roles within the Construction and Plant Industry, including Woodrow Construction as a site engineer and Hewden where she held various operational and sales roles including depot manager. 

Alan Taylor – head of HQSE  

Alan Taylor has been appointed as head of HQSE for Story Contracting covering the three business divisions Rail, Construction and Plant. 

Alan will be responsible for the development and implementation of the HSQE strategy across the business. 

Alan joined the business from HSB Engineering Insurance an Industrial services company working as Head of HSQE for the last 8 years. 

Damion Hunt – buying & supply chain lead

Damion Hunt has been appointed as buying & supply chain lead for Story Contracting covering the Rail division. 

Damion will be responsible for developing and managing supply chain systems and processes for Rail, monitoring the performance of supply chain partners and feedback to the business, establish a supply chain for key packages within rail projects, enabling the business to meet client KPI’s in respect of supply chain management. 

Damion joined the business from Lundy Projects Ltd, who fabricate and install overhead line structures and signal gantries for Network Rail where he was a procurement engineer for the last 15 months.
