CRANSTONS Foodhall at Orton Grange, near Carlisle, has beaten stiff competition to be crowned the best in the UK at the Butchers Shop of the Year Awards.

The awards honour the best butchers and recognise excellence in traditional craft butchery.

Cranstons won the 'Foodhall Butchery Business' section beating Delifonseca Dockside, of Liverpool, and Huntley’s of Samlesbury near Preston, as North West entries dominated the category.

Orton Grange, on the A595 four miles west of Carlisle, opened in November 2013.

It offers quality beef, pork and lamb sourced from local farmers and prepared by Cranstons' butchers using traditional craft skills.

Cranstons' produce is complemented by foodstuffs from other local suppliers including ales, fruit and vegetables, artisan bread and ice cream.

The Butchers Shop of the Year Awards, run by Meat Trade Journal, were presented at a ceremony at London's Banking Hall.

Orton Grange manager Peter Potts and retail director Martin Jones attended the event.

Mr Jones said: “It is fantastic for Orton Grange to win such a prestigious award in the food hall’s infancy.

"For a shop that’s only been open for three years, it’s an amazing feat. It is very rewarding for our team to be recognised for all their hard work."
