Ulverston electrical safety and monitoring specialist firm Bender UK has become the sole UK supplier of a line of top-of-the range surgical lights.
The company, which is based in Low Mill Business Park, has the exclusive rights to supply QFlow LED models, which are developed by Merivaara of Finland.

This new range was formally launched at the Operating Theatre Conference 2017 - 'The Future of Surgery' - in Manchester at the end of last month.

Bender has already had orders for lighting sets from hospitals across the country.

Bender UK managing director Gareth Brunton said that the company was delighted to be partnering with Merivaara which already has an impressive reputation in the medical sector.

He said: “The Merivaara name is well known to clinicians for the quality of its medical equipment and the new lighting range is certain to further enhance that reputation for performance," he added.

"It perfectly complements our own offering to hospitals, clinics and health trusts across the UK and Ireland.”

Merivaara lights now form part of Bender' range of healthcare products and services which includes critical care power equipment, surgical equipment, turnkey theatre packages, service and technical support.

Merivaara is an established supplier of medical equipment for operating theatres and this range is the first medical lighting system to be manufactured by the company.

The new lights provide advanced performance in a number of key areas, including best-in-class colour rendering which is vital for surgeons and theatre staff to monitor the health and well-being of patients.

They also contain a 'Dynamic Obstacle Compensation' system, developed to minimise shadows in the light field which reduces fatigue for the surgical team and minimises risk for patients.

The lighting also has a streamlined construction, designed to deliver an uninterrupted vertical flow of sterile air to the operating table, minimising the turbulence which can introduce bacteria at the operation site.

Energy efficient LED technology also reduces heat generation and power consumption, and offers an operational lifetime of up to 50,000 hours for each light.

Bender has experienced rapid growth this decade and its business has doubled in size since 2010.

Markets include the medical sector, renewable energy, rail infrastructure, data centres, power distribution, offshore subsea development, the oil and gas industry, marine and manufacturing.

Earlier this year it moved into new premises in Ulverston.
