A multi-million-pound business park in Carlisle will open next month, it has been revealed.
H&H Group is behind the 11-unit development on the Rosehill Estate.
Work started 12 months ago on the scheme, which also includes a new food store for Pioneer Foodservice. The store will open later in the year.
Brian Richardson, chief executive of H&H Group, said: “The Borderway site opening is the result of many years of planning and development, and although the building work has taken only 12 months, the planning for the site has been over several years.
"It is tremendous to see the results of this work coming to fruition – an area of wasteland transformed into a modern business centre.
“Given the history of the site, this development has not been without its complications and we have worked closely with our main contractors, Thomas Armstrong Construction and Hyde Harrington, to manage the project and work through the issues.
"We now have a site that enhances the Rosehill Estate and one which will go on to support, create and sustain jobs in Carlisle, both now and in the future.”
In the past, the site has been a clay pit, a waste tip and an army base.
David Atkinson, managing director of Thomas Armstrong Construction, said: "During construction the site has thrown up a few challenges, which we have worked through to deliver the project.
"Our relationship with the H&H Group and the project team has been excellent throughout.
On behalf of my team, I would like to say how proud we are to have delivered this project for H&H, and at the same time have very much enhanced this part of Carlisle.”
Scott Harrington, director of Hyde Harrington, led the team of experts putting the project together, including Architects Plus, Johnston & Wright, RG Parkins & Partners, Tweddel & Slater and Cundall.
The Hyde Harrington team is now working with H&H on letting the business units and on the future management of the site.
Mr Harrington said: “We have been involved in the project for almost three years and it has, as with many sites, not been without its complications, but we have worked closely with H&H and Thomas Armstrong to overcome these.
"It has been a great team effort and we are all delighted to see it coming to its final stage."
H&H Group said 50 per cent of the 2,000sq ft units have already been let and the handover to the first tenants will take place next month.
H&H Group, based at Borderway Mart in Carlisle, operates as a holding company with seven operating companies of livestock and machinery auctioneers, brokers and valuers, estate agents, auction rooms, commercial printers, chartered surveyors and insurance brokers.
It has offices in Cumbria, Durham, Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
