A Cumbrian hotel is expanding after securing a new owner and a six-figure funding package.

The Woodlands Guest House in Windermere is set to increase its capacity by 60 per cent and bring on new staff after being acquired by Leeds-based entrepreneur John Jiang.

Mr Jiang, who last year bought the 50-room Greengables Hotel in Scarborough, plans to add 10 new rooms to the five-star boutique hotel, which once hosted David and Samantha Cameron.

The hotel currently features 15 individually designed en suite rooms, offering guests a range of luxury single, double and triple-bed accommodation along with breakfast facilities.

By accommodating 50 guests, the hotel expects to increase its total annual revenue by up to eight per cent over the next 12 months.

Mr Jiang, who received support for his acquisition from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, is also looking to hire up to three new staff members, bringing its total staff count to 10.

Mr Jiang, said: “Over the coming months, we’ll be looking to expand the hotel to increase the number of guests we can accommodate, in time for next summer’s peak tourist season.”
