Notice of intention to carry out works on Common Land Section 23(2) of the National Trust Act 1971
Coniston Fell, Dunnerdale Fell, Seathwaite Fell & Torver High Common.
The National Trust has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 23(2) of the National Trust Act 1971 to carry out restricted works on Coniston Fell, Dunnerdale
Fell, Seathwaite Fell & Torver High Common.
The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the
Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
The proposed works are:
To construct a 100kW hydropower scheme on National Trust Common Land at Greenburn, Little Langdale. The scheme comprises of:
- Installation of an intake structure within Greenburn Beck, comprising of a weir approximately 2metres x 2metres and additional buried chamber, approximately 2metres x 2 metres;
- A buried plastic pipe with a diameter of 355mm and 580 M in length (under the common)
All other works and the remainder of the pipe route are off common land.
The intake works will be located adjacent to the Greenburn Copper Mines, approximately 2KM South West of Little Langdale Tarn, Little Langdale. Grid reference NY 289022.
