Kemplay Roundabout, Temporary Prohibition of Traffic

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - Section 14 The A66 Trunk Road And M6 Motorway (Junction 40 Roundabout - Kemplay Roundabout To Skirsgill Interchange & Slip Roads)
(Temporary Restriction And Prohibition Of Traffic) Order 2022

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the A66 Trunk Road and the M6 Motorway, in the District of Eden, in the County of Cumbria, to enable resurfacing, signage works, and other maintenance works; to be carried out in safety.
(a) The Order will impose speed limits on the following sections of the A66 Trunk Road and M6 Motorway:

i) a 40 mph speed limit on the westbound dual carriageway, from the start of the exit from Kemplay Roundabout, onto the A66 Trunk Road and continue to the entry slip of the Skirsgill Roundabout at J40;

ii) a 40 mph speed limit on the eastbound dual carriageway, from start of the exit from which the Rheged Roundabout joins the dual carriageway, to the entry slip road of the Skirsgill Roundabout at J40;

iii) a 40 mph speed limit on the eastbound dual carriageway, from the first point of the exit from Skirsgill Roundabout at J40 onto the A66 Trunk Road, and continue to the entry slip road of Kemplay Roundabout;

iv) a 40 mph speed limit on the M6 J40 Skirsgill Roundabout;

v) a 10 mph speed limit on the westbound carriageway of the A66 Trunk Road, from a point 400 metres west of the exit slip road of Kemplay Roundabout, onto the A66 Trunk Road, and continue to the entry slip road of Skirsgill Roundabout;

vi) a 10 mph speed limit on the eastbound carriageway, from the start of the exit slip road of Rheged Roundabout, onto the A66 Trunk Road and continue to a point 400 metres west of the entry slip road of Kemplay Roundabout;

vii) a 10 mph speed limit on the eastbound carriageway from the start of the exit slip road of Skirsgill Roundabout at J40, onto the A66 Trunk Road and continue to a point 400 metres west of the entry onto the Kemplay Roundabout.

The 10mph limit will apply for safety reasons through the works area where traffic will be escorted by a highway maintenance vehicle.
(b) The Order will ban all traffic from the following sections of the A66 Trunk Road and M6 Motorway:

i) the A66 westbound dual carriageway, from the start of the exit from Kemplay Roundabout, onto the A66 Trunk Road and continue to the entry slip of the Skirsgill Roundabout at J40 (as described in a) i above);

ii) the M6 southbound exit and entry slip roads at J40;

iii) the M6 northbound exit and entry slip roads at J40

Only the eastbound or westbound carriageways will be closed at any one time.
(c) The Order will ban all traffic from laybys adjacent to the A66 Trunk Road as follows:

i) the layby located on the westbound carriageway, from a point 170 metres west of the last point where trunk road leaves the Kemplay Roundabout;

ii) the layby located on the eastbound carriageway, from a point 174 metres east of the last point where the trunk road leaves the Skirsgill Roundabout at J40

Restriction a) i-iv, Prohibitions b) i and c) i are expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 (07:00 on Saturday and Sunday mornings) during three consecutive weekends starting on Saturday 2 July 2022 and ending on Sunday 3 July 2022
Restriction a) v is expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Monday 4 July and ending on Thursday 7 July 2022;
Restriction a) vi-vii and prohibition c) ii are expected to take place overnight between 20:00 and 06:00 during a period starting on Tuesday 12 July 2022 and ending on Thursday 14 July 2022; Prohibition b) iii is expected to take place between the following hours 20:00 and 23:55 during a period starting on Wednesday 6 July 2022, Prohibition b) ii is expected to take place between the following hours 00:05 and 06:00 during a period starting on Thursday 7 July 2022; However, works may start and continue between the same times on subsequent nights, until completed.
Diversion routes via alternative junctions of the A66, M6 and local roads will be well signed.
The restrictions will not apply to emergency services or special-forces
vehicles, and the prohibitions will not apply to emergency services,
works, winter maintenance, or traffic officer vehicles. The prohibitions
and restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as
shall be indicated by traffic signs. The Order comes into force on
16 June 2022 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
