THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (VARIOUS ROADS, SWARTHMOOR) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2022

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable works to take place for a new road layout and roundabout ("the Works"), the County Council of Cumbria has made an Order the effect of which is to:

1. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding at speeds in excess of 20MPH along the following lengths of road in Swarthmoor:



(i) U5696 - From its junction with the A590 extending in a generally easterly direction for a distance of 183m; and



(ii) U5954 (formerly the known as C5036 - From its junction with C5036, extending for its entire length.



2. Prohibit any motor vehicle from proceeding along the following lengths of road in Swarthmoor:



(i) U5696, from its junction with the A590, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of 10m; and



(ii) U5954 (formerly known as C5036), from its junction with the A590, extending in a north westerly direction for a distance of 11m.



There is no suitable alternative route available for motor vehicles. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

3. Prohibit any vehicle from waiting at any time on any day, along the following lengths of road in Swarthmoor:



(i) U5954 (formerly known as C5036) (Both Sides), from a point 11m north-west of its junction with the A590, extending for a distance of 9m including the turning head



(ii) U5696 (Both Sides), from a point 10m south-east of its junction with the A590, extending for a distance of 13m including the turning head



Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:

(i) Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and



(ii) Apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform; and



(iii)Have the effect of preventing at any time access for pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the roads, or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and only from the road; and

(iv)Apply to vehicles being used in connection with the Works (v)Apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

The Order will come into operation on 8 April 2022 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will be required for 3 months, as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
