Prime Lambs
AN excellent entry of quality lambs through the mart today met an improved trade than that of previous weeks with top price on the day realising 205.26ppkg for tremendous 38kg Charolais lambs exhibited by TW Stephenson, Gilson Nook, bought by A Dawson, Sedburgh. Top pounds per head reached £94 twice. Firstly for very good 53kg Texels exhibited by T Postlethwaite and Co, Holm Bank being purchased by M Lomax Ltd, Milnthorpe and secondly for shapy 58kg Suffolks shown by I Nelson, Sodhouse also being purchased by M Lomax Ltd, Milnthorpe.

Prime Cattle/OTM Cattle
A pleasing number of good cattle forward meant buyers left content with their purchases. Averages on the day were 196.70ppkg for steers and 203.83ppkg for heifers. Top price on the day reached a high of 212.50ppkg (£1,164.50) for a marvellous 548kg Limousin steer exhibited by Wearing Bros, Low Shaw being purchased by JW Bowling Ltd, Wigan. Top price heifer realised 209.50ppkg (£1,162.72) for a tremendous 555kg Limousin also exhibited by Wearing Bros, Low Shaw being purchased by P Smith, Penrith. Top pounds per head met a staggering £1,421.25 (189.50ppkg) for a strong 750kg Limousin steer shown by DC and MA Bowes, Priory Park being purchased by T Postlethwaite and Co, Urswick. The average on the day for OTM Cattle reached 124.25ppkg with the top peaking at 139.50ppkg for a sturdy Charolais Cow exhibited by P Eastham, Greenbank being purchased by SH Bowes, Harbarrow.

Dairy, Stores and Calves
A satisfying entry forward met a brisk trade in all areas with dairy topping at £1,900 for a very productive Ayrshire cross heifer exhibited by J and S Tyson, Causeywood. Topping with the store cattle were a very good pen of Holstein Friesian steers shown by M/s Rothery, New Hall. Bull calves met an incredible trade reaching a very good high of £365 for only weeks old Limousin crosses exhibited by Kirkby and Longworth, Sella Farm.

Yet again excellent numbers coming forward to a joyful ringside of eager buyers reaching an incredible trade, although ‘fatter’ types have slipped in trade slightly. Topping the market today was a pen of strong Texel Rams reaching £131 for vendor T Postlethwaite and Co, Holm Bank being purchased by M Lomax Ltd, Milnthorpe.
