Three arrested after Walney brawl

POLICE made three arrests after a brawl broke out on Walney.

Two men and a woman were taken into custody after police were called to a disturbance in Biggar Bank Road at 7.36pm yesterday.

Members of the public reported seeing a number of people fighting in the area, where there is currently a travellers' site.

One man was arrested and taken to Barrow, where he is in custody. Two further people, one man and one woman, were also arrested to prevent further breach of the peace.

A police spokesman said: "During transportation to custody, the man suffered a medical episode. Police officers administered first aid until the ambulance arrived. Paramedics treated him at scene and his condition improved. He has been transported to Furness General Hospital."

Residents have reported hearing sirens and seeing a large number of police vehicles in the area.

Rumours had been circulating on social media sites that someone had died. However, the Evening Mail understands from police sources that nobody was seriously hurt during the incident.

Sources said speculation that someone had died were "grossly inaccurate".
