Thieves target car engine parts in Carlisle

A resident spotted a teenage thief lying under a neighbour’s van, apparently trying to cut off its exhaust.

The boy, aged 15 or 16, fled after being seen underneath a Citroen Relay in Carlisle in the early hours of the morning.

It happened in Norfolk Road, Denton Holme, between 1am and 1.15am yesterday. Investigations found the exhaust pipe had been cut.

Police are investigating if there are any links between this and two other raids in which vehicles were targeted for engine parts.

A catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle in Irvings Place, Denton Holme, overnight on Wednesday.

The same type of part was taken from a Citroen Relay in the Granville Road area, off Wigton Road, between Friday, August 3 and Wednesday.

Officers are appealing for information. Call them on 101.
