TALENTED young artists had their work displayed at a prestigious exhibition in London.

Five Furness Academy art students were chosen to have their creations put on show at The National Students’ Art Exhibition, run by the Royal Society of British Artists, at the Mall Galleries.

The show brought together work from the best young artists in the country, alongside work from the most eminent British artists.

The Barrow secondary school put forward six pieces of work for selection and all six were chose for the exhibition, which was staged earlier this month.

The student artists were Kayleigh Lomas, Sophie Todd, Elizabeth Martin, Sophie Woods and Ruth Archer, who had two pieces selected

It was believed that Furness Academy may have had the most exhibits for a school.

Miranda Bond, head of creative arts at Furness Academy, said: “We are thrilled.

“It’s a high end exhibition, with work by some of the best young artists in the country.

“The students have worked exceptional hard and they were very, very proud to have their work exhibited.”

Ruth, 16, travelled to London to see her elephant-themed pencil drawing and 2D relief parrot piece in the exhibition. Unfortunately her 2D piece was damaged getting to gallery and was unable to be displayed, but she was delighted to see even one piece in the top exhibition.

She said: “It was brilliant, I felt proud and excited to see my work in the gallery.”

Ruth hopes to start an apprenticeship in engineering or technical design in September.
