Supply firm opens distribution centre

AN engineering supply firm has branched out into a distribution centre.
Following seven years of growth, Barrow-based engineering component supplier Acorn Industrial Services Ltd (North West) has grown from a branch into a fully operational distribution centre.
Area sales manager, Dave Moncrief, founded the North West branch in 2005 and originally worked from his home in Askam. After two years, Mr Moncrief moved to an office in Waterside House and recruited Steve Smith as branch manager. A more recent addition to the centre is Pam Ross who has joined the sales team.
The company has now continued in its growth with the opening of a 2,500 sq ft regional distribution centre at Forge Close.
Mr Moncrief said: “Becoming a regional distribution centre was a natural step for Acorn North West. When a customer’s machine breaks down, it can cost thousands of pounds an hour in lost production.
“Acorn recognises the need to get a customer’s machinery up and running as fast as possible – opening a distribution centre enables us to do that. We now hold stocks of bearings, PT and engineering products, providing a faster response to our customers’ requirements.
“The ability for customers to collect their items same-day is also more convenient and allows customers to save even more time.” Acorn specialises in the supply of bearings, power transmission products, linear systems and engineering products to Cumbrian and Lancashire businesses.
The company’s distribution network includes leading manufacturers, such as SKF, Goodyear and Renold.
