Sainsbury’s holding open days for 350 Carlisle jobs

Open days for one of Carlisle’s larger employers will be held this month in a big jobs boost for the city.
Sainsbury’s is to create 350 jobs when it opens a £40 million store in Caldewgate this October and will hold two open days at the end of June.
Recruitment for the posts will take place via the store’s website but anyone interested in finding out more can go along to the open days on June 29 and 30.
They will take place at Carlisle College from 10am to 8pm on the first day, and 10am to 4pm on the second.
Store manager David Morris said they had been inundated with calls about the jobs.
“I’m delighted with the interest we’ve had so far and look forward to interviewing prospective colleagues,” he said.
“I would encourage anyone interested to keep checking the website from June 29 for information about the roles available, and to come along to the open days.”
Work on the store itself started in March and much of the building has already been completed but roadworks on Castle Way have been causing major tailbacks at peak times.
Motorists face another five weeks of hold-ups in the Shaddongate area as work continues.
A section of Castle Way has been partially closed, limiting traffic to one lane, as contractors build a new exit for the store and connect it to the National Grid.
A spokesman for Cumbria County Council said they had been told the work would take around five more weeks and the road is due to be fully reopened by mid-July.
The 60,000 sq ft store will have parking for 446 cars and a petrol station.
