AN inter-school science and engineering competition is to return with a spectacular launch event next week.
Top of the Form, a contest for secondary school students is back in February.
The official draw for the competition, will be held at Ulverston Victoria High School on February 1.
The draw will determine the line up for the heats involving eight local schools – Cartmel Priory CE School, Chetwynde School, Dowdales School, Furness Academy, Millom School, St Bernard’s Catholic High School, Walney School and Ulverston Victoria High School.
Ahead of the proceedings the launch event will include a Britain’s Got Talent – style variety contest with students from some of the local schools performing.
The event, which starts at 7pm, is free to attend and everyone is welcome to come and cheer on the acts.
The draw takes place at around 8.30pm.
Top of the Form is run by graduates from BAE Systems Maritime-Submarines.
Each school has four members, a boy and a girl from Year 10 and Year 11. They compete in various science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) challenges, with some of them practical tasks. Heats one and two are to be held on February 20 and heats three and four on February 27, the semi-finals are on March 20 and the final is on April 25 at the Coronation Hall, in Ulverston.
Furness Academy, of Barrow, is back to back 2012 and 2011 champion.
