Opening of Next Home shop in Carlisle delayed

THE opening of the Next Home store on a retail park in Carlisle has been pushed back until July – but a new shoe outlet will open this month.

Next had hoped to open its first Home branch in the city this month. It is going to open in a unit formerly occupied by Curry’s at Kingstown Retail Park.

The Next Home brand sells furniture, sofas, curtains and blinds, rugs, mirrors, lighting as well as accessories.

A Next spokesman said: “We are still planning to open a Home store in Carlisle this year. We had hoped to open this month but this has now been put back until July.”

The spokesman was unable to say exactly how many jobs will be created. Next already has two stores in the city centre, which usually attract long queues, in its traditional Boxing Day sale.

Meanwhile, a new shoe shop – creating nine new jobs – is set to open at Byron House, The Maltings, off Shaddongate, next Thursday. Wynsors World of Shoes sells men’s, women’s and children’s shoes and has 45 stores across the north of England.
