One of the Lake District's top tourist attractions is doubling the size of its workforce for the summer season.

Windermere Lake Cruises is launching a major recruitment campaign, which will see staff numbers rise to around 200.

A variety of roles will be available at Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside, between April and November.

The fixed-term contracts include crew to work on board the main fleet, as well as overseeing the popular self-drive motor boats and rowing boats.

Other vacancies include customer service staff to work in ticket offices, lakeside shops, cafés and information points, and drivers for the Bowness ‘road train’ which operates on The Glebe.

Ian Wilkinson, HR Manager at Windermere Lake Cruises, said: “Our vessels operate seven days a week throughout the year, but the summer months are a particularly busy time and we need to have the right people in place to make sure our visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience.

“It’s a complex operation, with more than 100 daily sailings at the height of the season, but full training is given to all new recruits.

“We can promise some of the best views you’re likely to find in any workplace and it’s a great opportunity to meet visitors from around the world.

He added: “There are also lots of perks for our staff, including discounts on many tourist attractions in the area.”
