The All England Open stone skimming championships has been given a sponsorship boost by a Cumbrian company.

Kendalife, which is made by Kendal Nutricare, based in the South Lakeland town, will sponsor this year’s event, which takes place in Windermere.

This is in addition to supporting the fundraising of South Cumbria Rivers Trust (SCRT), which organises the event.

Kendalife is expected to be as successful as the company's existing Kendamil infant formula when it launches into the UK market in September. It is a formulated nutrition drink, supportive of active lifestyles and can be used as an exercise supplement and is a meal replacement.

The stone skimming will attract some of the best male and female stone skimmers in Europe and the Kendalife product will be sent on request to competitors, prior to the event, should they wish.

The chief executive officer of Kendalife, Ross McMahon, said: "We instantly saw a synergy with this much loved local event, which requires a good level of fitness and technique that will result in a long throw, and which must bounce along the water at least three times.

"Contestants will be throwing stones in pursuit of a sporting record. The product can help health conscious individuals lose weight, in addition to enjoying better nutrition and balance for body and mind."

The event takes place at Fell Foot Park in Windermere on August 19.
