A NEW asphalt plant has opened in Cumbria, creating five jobs.

Jobling Purser - a firm which is headquartered in Newcastle - has opened the facility at Hespin Wood, outside Carlisle.

This plant

is equipped with a three-tonne mixer, which enables it to produce up to 300 tonnes of material per hour.

It is the family firm's first operation in Cumbria, which it has described as a "significant" investment.

It aims to supply contractors and small firms in the county and southern Scotland.

Operations director, Evan Jobling-Purser said: “Jobling Purser is very proud of its extensive history in the highways industry and what it has achieved in the asphalt supply market place in the north east.

"This significant investment by Jobling Purser in Carlisle brings jobs and other economic benefits and will be welcomed by surfacing contractors working in the area.

"This is a very exciting time for Jobling Purser.”

The local plant manager, Steve Larkin, added: “Operationally this plant is of the highest quality in both design and build and with its high capacity and flexibility I am confident that we can deliver an excellent product and exceptional service to all of our customers”

The project is being supported by the Governments Regional Growth fund and by the Cumbria Chamber Partnership
