FURNESS defence firm Oxley has appointed a new representative - in Japan.

Japan Aerospace Corporation will represent the company - which is based in Priory Park, Ulverston - across its lighting systems product portfolio.

This includes LED lighting for aircraft as well as other products for land vehicles and naval vessels.

JAC, which is based in Tokyo, is a well-established supplier of aircraft systems. The company was incorporated in 2004, while its business origins began in 1952 in the general aviation market.

It has grown to include defence and aerospace systems and its customers include Japan Ministry of Defence, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.

JAC has a strong record in supplying products to the aerospace and military sectors and the Oxley products should complement their existing portfolio.

This deal will also offer Oxley customers access to in-country expertise and support.

Martin Blakstad, Oxley's chief executive, said: "We’re delighted to sign this agreement with JAC, Japan is a key growing market for Oxley.

"We have already started to supply lighting solutions for the JMOD fleet and we look forward to developing deeper customer relationships through our link with JAC."
