A LIGHTING and engineering firm is closing two of its Barrow locations as part of an expansion and relocation to its headquarters in Ulverston.

Oxley Developments has already closed one of its units at Furness Business Park in Peter Green Way and the second unit will be closed later this year.

The closures of the firm's components and warehouse premises are part of the LED company's bid to centre all of its business at the Priory Park headquarters in Ulverston.

Oxley is undergoing a substantial investment programme at its headquarters with all staff being relocated. A range of new facilities are being installed at the Priory Park base, including a new canteen (pictured).

Jayne Moorby, marketing manager for Oxley, described the move as "very positive news".

She added: "We're relocating all staff and the manufacturing facility up to Priory Park at Ulverston as we have a substantial investment programme under way here to improve this site with a number of renovation projects and we're putting in a range of new facilities.

It is long-term investment in the site and in new technology and we continue to have a firm commitment to offering customers a full end-to-end solution from our Cumbria base."

Oxley specialises in LED lighting, night vision products, EMC filters (which reduce the transfer of electromagnetic noise), interconnect components and data capture products.

The company was set up in 1940 producing capacitors for the military. It moved to Ulverston two years later and has been based at Priory Park since the 1950s.

It works in the aerospace and defence technology industries, producing LED lighting and high specification electronic components from Ulverston and at a US subsidiary in Connecticut.

The company's investment programme is set to be completed later this year.

Unit 1 at Furness Business Park, which has now been vacated by Oxley, is currently being marketed for rental. The price for the 15,000 square foot premises is available on application.
