APPLEBY Brewery has linked up with charity Eden Mencap Society and developed a beer to help the organisation raise funds.

This is called Vanya Yam - meaning almost home in Cumbrian dialect -a four per cent IPA, which will be launchednext month in Penrith.

Money raised by sales will go towards helping the chartity buy a home in Penrith.

Staff from Mencap were challenged to develop a concept and come up with a name at a tram building session in the brewery.

Julia Turton, a support worker, said: “It’s essential that our guys get the opportunity to experience activities that go on in and around their local community. What set out as a staff team building event turned in to a fabulous way to get our guys involved and raising funds for our appeal.

We continue the learning back at our office base, we research about beer, its tastes, strengths and look at what is available locally. It’s a great opportunity to explore many other topics related to health and wellbeing and offer the guys a different activity to the norm."
