Family bakery firm Bells of Lazonby has celebrated the sale of its 100,00th artisan loaf.

This range was launched last summer through the Hand Crafted Artisan sourdough bread brand and now been refreshed by the company, which has added seven new products taking the total available to 10.

The range is handmade daily using a traditional sourdough ferment and Cumbrian-sourced flour, taking three days to ferment and prove the dough with natural yeasts.

Many of the breads are also hand stencilled using designs based around the history of Bells, as well as and these have been created with different audiences in mind. These include

Michael Bell, managing director said: “This range showcases what we do best, making and baking bread the proper way.

“We are thrilled that some of longest serving staff of over 30 years as well as some of our newer baking apprentices are working together on this new product launch to make the best range yet."

This range of breads, is available in branches of both Booths and Cranstons.

Bells celebrated its 70th anniversary last year. The company employs about 250 people at its bakeries in Lazonby and has annual sales of £18m. It also supplies cakes to Costa Coffee and Mr Kipling.
