The purpose of the trip to Hawse End Educational Centre, near Keswick, was to challenge and encourage the apprentices to reach their full potential and develop a higher self-esteem by improving their confidence and also help them to establish a positive “can do” attitude.

Gary Gibson, apprentice supervisor at Kimberly-Clark said: “It’s interesting to see how the apprentices adapt to the various challenges and also how they encourage each other to overcome their fears to succeed.

“Being able to adapt to different situations at short notice and also ensure that each member of the team is kept involved with clear and precise instructions is key to ensuring these activities are a success. They also learn that sometimes the simplest form of solving the problem can be the most effective.”

The apprentices were faced with a range of activities which required them to work and communicate as a team.

Despite Storm Doris making an appearance the group successfully overcame the physically and mentally challenging tests which included abseiling, caving and archery.

There were also kayaking activities on Derwent Water.

Jack Littlehales, one of the apprentices on the trip, said: “I was able to really engage in all of the activities and create a stronger bond with my colleagues.

“I really enjoyed the whole experience.”
