Today (Monday, June 26), the first group of young people will depart from West Cumbria to enjoy a once-in-lifetime experience.

NCS, delivered in Cumbria by Inspira, is a unique three-week programme focused around fun and discovery, with participants volunteering at least 30 hours to a community project to address a local issue important to them.

Mark Bowman, CEO at Inspira, said: “We’re delighted to be sending out over 1,000 young people from Cumbria on NCS once again this summer, and we look forward to seeing their social action projects as they progress through the programme.”

The group will head for Howtown Outward Bound Activity Centre for their first week on the programme, then Newton Rigg for a week to experience independent living.

Jodie Mather, who provides Business and Contract Support at Inspira, credits NCS with kick-starting her career.

She said: “NCS looks really good on your CV and can contribute to getting a job. My experience and confidence certainly helped me when I applied for an apprenticeship at Inspira.”
